AMD selects General Software firmware solution for AMD Geode™ Processor Development Platforms

—Embedded BIOS® 2000 provides optimal productivity with modular SDK architecture reducing risk, product time-to-market and support for the entire product development cycle—

Bellevue, WA -- February 14, 2005 --General Software, Inc., the leading supplier of embedded x86 firmware solutions, today announced that Embedded BIOS® 2000 with Firmbase® Technology was selected as the reference BIOS for two AMD Geode™ processor development boards. The AMD Geode DBSC1100 and AMD Geode DBSC1200 development boards provide a computer-on-module design ideal for low-power, high-performance computing products including set-top boxes, thin client form factors and information appliances.

"AMD is pleased that General Software has provided Embedded BIOS 2000 with Firmbase Technology for the AMD Geode DBSC1100 and AMD Geode DBSC1200 development boards," said Erik Salo, director of marketing for the Personal Connectivity Solutions Group, AMD. "We have long appreciated General Software’s excellent technology and support of the Geode family and our embedded x86 customers."

"AMD’s demonstrated commitment to support embedded x86 customers with best in class technology and development platforms is reinforced with the introduction of these exciting new development boards targeted at low-power, high-performance applications," said Steve Jones, CTO and Co Founder, General Software. "We are pleased that AMD chose General Software as the reference BIOS for these boards, building on a successful collaboration that started with the introduction of AMD’s first system-on-a-chip in the mid 1990s. General Software is committed to working with AMD to help ensure continued success of their embedded customers."

Features include a powerful integrated debugger; headless operation through console redirection; highly configurable POST; manufacturing mode; ROM, RAM, and Flash file systems; support for a host of industry initiatives; and much more. Embedded BIOS 2000 supports industry-standard operating systems that run on PC-compatible hardware, including the full spectrum of Windows, Linux, and real-time operating systems.

About Firmbase® Technology
Firmbase Technology is General Software's patented 32-bit firmware infrastructure that contributes the surety and trust expected from firmware applications. A non-stop SMM envelope is provided which keeps firmware applications running, even when the OS and user application have failed, or are missing. Firmbase Technology is ROM-resident and provides a chain of trust from power-on to OS boot. It supplies the user-level security for the BIOS and for firmware applications which do not run under OS control.
