Yield Dynamics and AMD Form Integrated Yield Management Relationship

San Francisco, CA -- July 23, 2002 --Yield Dynamics, Inc. (YDI), a leader in engineering data analysis software, today announced that it has formed a strategic relationship with AMD (NYSE: AMD), a world-leading supplier of integrated circuits, to market integrated, fab-wide data storage and analysis products for semiconductor manufacturing. The announcement was made today at SEMICON West.

YDI’s Genesis™ Yield Management and Engineering Data Analysis software has been integrated with AMD’s manufacturing-proven SAPPHiRE database software to produce an extraordinarily powerful, reliable and cost-effective solution for rapid and comprehensive data collection and analysis, enabling fast yield learning, process development and improvement. These products are planned to be sold exclusively through YDI’s global sales and marketing organization.

AMD has entered into this Relationship with YDI as a result of integrating, installing and using both products with great success in AMD’s manufacturing facilities. “AMD is confident in and impressed with the technical roadmap and functionality of the Genesis application,” said Charles Clark, director of Global Manufacturing Services for AMD. “By integrating Genesis with our SAPPHiRE database, we will be offering an outstanding solution for semiconductor manufacturing and AMD’s use of this technology will benefit our customers as well.”

The Relationship was created to foster ongoing improvement and enhancement of both AMD’s SAPPHiRE and YDI’s Genesis products. “Combining the best of two worlds, the semiconductor manufacturing experience and technology excellence of AMD, with YDI’s leading data analysis technology and world-wide marketing presence, will offer semiconductor makers exceptional efficiency in implementing extremely powerful yield management tool sets,” stated Peter R. Szasz, YDI’s vice president of Business Operations. “These products have proven to realize very rapid return on investment,” he added.

AMD’s SAPPHiRE database software provides semiconductor manufacturers with a systematic approach to collecting and storing data associated with product performance, product history, reliability and yield engineering. It is an Oracle-based, distributed, scalable, enterprise-wide database system for the collection and storage of manufacturing and engineering data from the entire fabrication and packaging process for use in yield engineering, reliability and quality applications.

SAPPHiRE integrates data from multiple factory systems and test equipment vendors and provides a historical archive that can be maintained for many years. It also offers automated archive and restore capabilities. The database architecture is designed to support a distributed manufacturing environment and provides seamless access to the corporate engineering data repository through the use of data replication and metadata technologies.

YDI’s Genesis suite of products enables a complete yield management methodology of data acquisition and integration, data analysis and automated decision-making through data mining, cross-correlation, and scripting. Its specialized analysis algorithms identify and correct spatial anomalies, wafer processing sequence problems, commonality of effects, detection of outliers and trends, and yield modeling to assess the impact of the design on the manufacturability of the resulting chip.

Genesis is the most advanced and comprehensive yield management system commercially available, and has been validated in customer sites around the world, including integrated device manufacturers, foundries, and fabless companies. It offers pre-packaged suites of modules to address yield, defect and fabless industry segments. In addition, users can create their own modules using the automated scripting language and data models to extend system capability with proprietary analysis routines.
