AMD CEO Hector Ruiz Appointed To President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee

SUNNYVALE, CA -- April 28, 2003 --AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced that Hector Ruiz, president and chief executive officer of AMD, has been appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a member of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).

The NSTAC provides industry-based analyses and recommendations to the President and executive branch regarding policy and enhancements to national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) communications. In its advisory role to the President, the NSTAC provides input on a wide range of policy and technical issues related to telecommunications, information systems, information assurance, infrastructure protection and other NS/EP concerns.

The NSTAC is composed of industry leaders from network service providers and information technology, finance, communications, and aerospace companies. Ruiz joins CEOs and top executives from Cisco Systems, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Verizon, Microsoft, Motorola and SBC Communications who have contributed their time and expertise to NSTAC.

“I am honored that AMD has the opportunity to contribute our expertise in developing mission-critical information technology solutions to help NSTAC strengthen and support national security and emergency preparedness operations,” said Ruiz. “Computer chips and software are vital components of our nation’s communications and information network, upon which so many enterprises, from the U.S. Government to Fortune 100 companies, rely. We all face similar challenges.”
