In addition to the performance enhancements offered by 45nm technology, Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors include many energy efficiency features such as AMD PowerNow!™ technology and Dual Dynamic Power Management™. The new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor enables users to realize improved performance without compromising on power consumption.

"AMD has worked extensively with Silicon Mechanics to bring leading solutions to market. The new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor delivers a unique advantage by enabling increased performance and optimal power consumption, all within the same socket as previous generations of dual- and Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors for easy upgradeability," said John Fruehe, director, Server and Workstation division, AMD (NYSE: AMD). "We expect the increased cache size to deliver superior performance across memory-intensive applications in the new Rackform nServ servers, providing significant benefits in storage and high performance computing environments."

"Thanks to core and cache enhancements, 45nm technology, and improved virtualization support, our customers can reap a range of benefits," said David Bryan, President of Silicon Mechanics.
