AMD-766™
This is a peripheral bus controller, or southbridge, that houses the various I/O subsystems, system management functions, and other remaining "core" system elements. While the Northbridge is the integration point for the high-speed system elements, the Southbridge is the integration focal point for lower-speed system elements that do not have Northbridge-type high bandwidth requirements. The most significant features of the AMD-766? Peripheral Bus Controller include the 33MHz/32-bit PCI Bus Interface (PCI 2.2 Compliant), the EIDE Controller (supporting 33600 MB/s modes), the 4-port OHCI USB Controller (USB 1.1 compliant), the I/O APIC Interrupt Controller, the SM-Bus Controller, the Low-Pin Count (LPC) Bus Controller, the Flash/GPIO Interface and also includes system management support.
