Understanding AMD Processor Model Numbers A computer’s performance should be measured by more than just its clock frequency (MHz/GHz). At AMD, we assign model numbers to indicate the relative performance of our processors and to help simplify your computer purchase decision.
AMD Athlon™ 64 processors / Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processors
AMD Sempron™ processors / Mobile AMD Sempron processors
- 4-digit model number followed by a “+”
- Example: AMD Athlon 64 4000+
- Higher model number indicates better overall performance
- The “+”indicates the added performance benefits delivered by AMD's innovative processor designs
AMD Athlon 64 FX processors
- “FX-” followed by a 2-digit model number
- Example: AMD Athlon FX-55 processor
- Higher model number indicates better overall performance
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology
/AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology
- 2 letters and 2 digits in the model number
- Example: AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology MT-34
- First letter indicates processor class
- Second letter designates increasing degree of mobility within the processor class as the letter approaches Z (example, model MT-xx indicates greater relative mobility than model ML-xx)
- Numbers indicate relative performance
- Higher model number indicates better overall performance
