BOXX Introduces New Workstations Featuring Six-Core AMD OpteronTM Processors

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- June 1, 2009 --BOXX Technologies, an innovator in high-performance computing systems for visual effects (VFX), design professionals, and advanced visualization, today introduced a trio of Six-Core AMD OpteronTM processor-based workstations—the 3DBOXX 7550, APEXX 4 and APEX 8. All surpass the performance of previous BOXX desktop systems featuring AMD technology.

“We are pleased to work with BOXX to deliver the enhanced features found in the Six-Core AMD Opteron processor to customers, including support for HyperTransport™ 3 technology and the AMD-P suite of power management features,” said John Fruehe, director, Business Development, Server and Workstation products, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “The 3DBOXX 7550 workstation provides digital artists, architects and technology professionals with superior performance, overall system balance, scalability and energy efficiency.”

Featuring twelve actual processing cores and advanced 64-bit architecture based on AMD’s Direct Connect Architecture, the versatile 3DBOXX 7550 offers high-powered, multitasking performance for 3D design, animation, rendering, and visualization applications, as well as VFX compositing, video editing and digital intermediate (DI) workflows. It offers three different Six-Core AMD Opteron processor options, up to 64 GB EEC SDSRAM DDR2 memory, six terabytes of storage, and up to six hard drives.

Designed for solving and visualizing large data sets, the multi-core, high-memory APEXX Series workstations provide high performance visualization for industrial designers, geophysicists, engineers, scientists and other technical professionals. The APEXX 4 features 24 processing cores, while APEXX 8 boasts an astonishing 48 cores of processing power.

“The next generation 3DBOXX 7550 and APEXX Series workstations represent our continued commitment to providing customers with the best in cutting-edge technology,” said Shoaib Mohammad, Director of Marketing and Business Development at BOXX. “The multiple processing cores found in each workstation deliver outstanding performance necessary for real world workflows, with superior value and energy efficiency at every price point.”
