Q:What is the AMD Opteron 8000 Series processor?
A:The AMD Opteron 8000 Series processor is a server processor with cutting-edge performance and energy efficiency capabilities. It is ideal for 4-way and 8-way configurations.

Q:What markets are you targeting with the AMD Opteron 8000 Series processor?
A:AMD Opteron 8000 Series processors with Direct Connect Architecture are for use in four- to eight-socket servers or workstations.

Enterprise workloads typically benefiting from four-socket and eight-socket server processing include:
  • Large, mission-critical databases
  • Business processing (ERP, CRM, SCM) and business intelligence
  • Other IT infrastructure applications including heavy-duty Web serving and messaging

Q:What TCO enhancements are in the AMD Opteron 8000 Series processor?
A:Third-Generation AMD Opteron processors maintain compatibility with the socket of Second-Generation AMD Opteron processors to enable a seamless customer upgrade path.

TCO is driven by the use of low-power DDR2 memory (which may also offer cost benefits over FBDIMM) and by the implementation of our AMD64 common core strategy across 1-socket, 2-socket, 4-socket and 8-socket platforms, which can help reduce support costs.

Additionally, flexibility is enabled by AMD Virtualization through the support of more applications on a single system or the support of legacy applications on modern hardware.

In addition to the benefit of lower-power memory use, by offering a quad-core upgrade path in Second-Generation AMD Opteron processor-based platforms within our customers’ infrastructures, we enable them to increase the longevity of their hardware investments with system upgrade capabilities.

AMD’s common core strategy enables customers to scale with one AMD64 architecture from 1P all the way to 8P servers and workstations, to reduce management complexity and increase datacenter productivity.

Q:What are the prices of AMD Opteron 8000 Series processors?
A:See AMD processor pricing for a complete listing of prices for AMD Opteron processors.

Q:What motherboard support is available for the AMD Opteron 8000 Series processor?
A:Please visit our AMD Opteron processor system component information section for information on specific boards and configurations.

Q:What benchmarks are available for the AMD Opteron 8000 Series processor?
A:All Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, including the 8300 Series, incorporate several new ground-breaking technologies enabling impressive results across a suite of benchmarks.
