Enterprise-class performance for today’s networked storage

“The AMD Opteron™ processor and HyperTransport™ technology are key to the capabilities and low cost of ágami’s network-attached storage systems.”
-David Stiles, Chief Technologist and VP of Hardware Engineering

A new frontier
The storage market is changing and growing at a breakneck pace.  The legacy model of application servers with islands of difficult to manage storage is moving into a more flexible networked environment.  And the amount of storage demanded by everyone from large enterprise IT managers to home users is evidenced by record-breaking market forecast numbers.

What can a leading processor platform offer?
Storage customers are measuring the performance of I/O and data throughput, in addition to reliability, manageability, and scalability. As a result, storage manufacturers are finding it can benefit their design to consider a processor’s features and value to the overall system.

AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture addresses the top performance issue in the networked storage environment:  throughput.  Direct Connect Architecture can improve overall system performance and efficiency by eliminating traditional bottlenecks inherent in legacy architectures. Legacy front-side buses restrict and interrupt the flow of data. Slower data flow means slower system performance. Interrupted data flow means reduced system scalability.  With AMD64 technology, there are no front-side buses. Instead, the processors, memory controller, and I/O are directly connected to the CPU and communicate at CPU speed.  AMD64 technology features an integrated memory controller, dramatically reducing memory latency and with HyperTransport™ technology delivering the industry’s highest possible I/O bandwidth, data can speed through the system without encountering the front side bus bottleneck that plagues competing x86 platforms.

agami Systems’ AIS6000 Series

The agami Systems AIS3000 Series offers an ideal small- and medium-sized business or remote office solution based on the AMD Opteron™ processor. With features that deliver high-performance backup, integrated file system replication and simple management, the AIS3000 series is available in a 4U chassis configuration and offers from 3.8 to 9.6 Terabytes of raw storage capacity.

HP ProLiant DL585 Storage Server

The HP ProLiant DL585 Storage Server is based on dual-core AMD Opteron™ processors and is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) gateway solution that provides multi-protocol file and print serving for both enterprise and workgroup SAN environments. It is ideal for customers with limited IT resources who require quick, simple, rapidly deployable, flexible storage and who need remote manageability.

NetApp FAS6070 and NetApp FAS6030

The NetApp FAS6070 and FAS6030 storage servers, based on the AMD Opteron™ processor, are designed for the largest enterprise applications, as well as demanding technical applications. They are part of a highly scalable series, based on modular architecture. The FAS6030 can be configured with 840 disk drives totaling 420TB of capacity. The FAS6070, which scales to 504TB spread across 1,008 disk drives, has 64GB/sec of internal data bandwidth.

This series supports highly effective storage consolidation and features a range of high availability and disaster recovery options.

NetApp FAS3070 and NetApp FAS3040

The NetApp FAS3070 and FAS3040 storage servers, featuring an AMD Opteron processor-based architecture, are designed to deliver exceptional capability for both business and technical applications, across both SAN and NAS environments with lower total cost of ownership. The FAS3070 scales to 252TB across 504 disk drives.

NetApp V6070 and NetApp V3040

The V-Series from NetApp is a market first – a storage virtualization solution that unifies block and file (NAS, FCP SAN, and IP SAN) storage networking paradigms under a common architecture. The AMD-based V3070 helps increase storage utilization and supports single or clustered controller configurations and the NetApp V6070, also featuring AMD64 technology, has been designed to support storage consolidation.

Sun StorageTek 5320 NAS Appliance

The Sun StorageTek 5320 NAS appliance features one AMD Opteron™ processor and offers file system journaling, checkpointing, remote mirroring and a clustering option.

Sun StorageTek 5220 NAS Appliance

The Sun StorageTek 5220 NAS Appliance is an entry-level storage solution featuring the AMD Opteron processor. It is an ideal solution for mid-range, mixed NFS/CIFS/iSCSI environments, simplifying file sharing between disparate platforms and helping drive down storage costs.
