Angstrom Microsystems™ Announces Liquid Cooled Blades Powered by Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ Processors

Boston, MA -- September 10, 2007 --Angstrom Microsystems, a Green computing specialist, is announcing the world's first Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ processor-based blade server using Angstrom’s unique LiquiBlade™ cooling technology. These high-density blade servers eliminate the need for data center air-conditioning, which helps significantly reduce a data center’s electricity costs. Easy to deploy and maintain, the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor-powered Angstrom LiquiBlades are designed to cool using a non-conductive fluid instead of water, thus eliminating the risk of data center disruption due to spillage.

"Angstrom’s compute hungry customers are looking forward to deploying the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor," said Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems, “With our patent-pending cooling technology, Angstrom offers 832 cores per rack, setting the mark for high density liquid cooled AMD server solutions.”

The Angstrom LiquiCool servers provide the same features as existing air-cooled solutions, with the added advantage of reducing overall power usage. Instead of being forced to accommodate for its new computing by building a new data center, a typical LiquiCool customer needs to only make minor modifications to their existing datacenter, thus saving significant capital infrastructure expense. A LiquiCool using AMD Opteron processors is comprised of four stacked nests, each nest housing 13 QuadraBlade 850’s for a total of 4 x 13 blade, or 52 blades. Angstrom’s cooling fluid is non-conductive, non-flammable, non-toxic and environmentally friendly – it is approved under the Kyoto treaty. Angstrom competitors provide either water-cooled to environmentally unfriendly solutions.

"Both AMD and Angstrom recognize that the escalating power demands of today’s data center require innovative technologies that can help lower energy consumption without disrupting a customer’s infrastructure,” said Patrick Patla, Director of Product Management, Server/Workstation Division, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “The combination of Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors with Enhanced AMD PowerNow!™ technology and Angstrom’s innovative LiquiBlade cooling technology provide customers high-performance solutions designed to operate in challenging environments.”
