AMD Announces Validated Server Program, Providing AMD Opteron™ Processor-Based Server Platforms and Manufacturing Services to System Builders

— Celestica building 4-way and 2-way servers powered by AMD Opteron™ processors 800 and 200 Series —

SUNNYVALE, CA -- June 30, 2003 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the Validated Server Program (VSP), offering immediate availability of complete AMD Opteron™ processor-based servers. System builders, system integrators and value-added resellers in North America will be the first to benefit from the VSP, which will provide AMD customers a single point of contact for server manufacturing, service, support and shipping. The program launched today with continued global rollout expected in the second half of 2003.

AMD is engaging Celestica (NYSE, TSX: CLS), a world leader in the delivery of innovative electronics manufacturing services, to build barebones and fixed-configuration systems powered by the revolutionary AMD Opteron™ processors 800 and 200 Series. Celestica and its partners will provide system builders with the full array of benefits that enterprise and commercial customers demand, including manufacturing, service and technical support.

“For the first time in the industry, system builders, system integrators and value-added resellers will have easy access to systems that offer simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing,” said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit. “The AMD Validated Server Program helps to free our customers from the work of manufacturing, shipping and supporting systems, enabling them to focus on the value-added services they bring to end users through systems customized to their market. System builders will now be able to offer backward compatibility and easy migration to 64-bit computing that AMD Opteron processor-based servers provide, with Celestica and its partners delivering a full array of after-sale services.”

“Celestica is pleased to support the AMD Validated Server Program to meet the needs of the system builder community by providing complete end-to-end manufacturing,” said Peter Lindgren, senior vice president, Celestica. “Celestica simplifies the process by giving system builders the ability to deliver cost-effective, readily available, high quality and manageable server programs backed by world-class service and support.”

The program will initially offer two servers in both barebones and fixed configurations—a 4-way capable rack-server, the 4U/4P A8440 based on the AMD Opteron processor 800 Series, and a 2-way capable rack-server, the 1U/2P A2210 based on the AMD Opteron processor 200 Series.

Availability
AMD today is also announcing the AMD Opteron processor 800 Series, with immediate worldwide availability of Models 844, 842 and 840. The previously announced AMD Opteron processor 200 Series, including Models 244, 242 and 240, is also available worldwide. System builders initially offering servers manufactured by Celestica include APPRO, Aspen Systems and RackSaver in North America. AMD plans to expand VSP availability to other regions in the second half of 2003.

About the AMD Opteron™ Processor
The AMD Opteron™ processor is based on AMD’s eighth-generation processor core, which marks the introduction of AMD64, the industry’s first 64-bit, x86 technology implementation. This technology preserves companies’ investments in 32-bit applications, while allowing a seamless transition to 64-bit computing as those companies require. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to deliver high-performance server and workstation solutions for today’s most demanding enterprise applications. The processor is scalable, reliable and compatible, which can result in lower total cost of ownership. Key AMD Opteron processor innovations include an integrated memory controller, which reduces memory bottlenecks, and HyperTransport™ technology, which increases overall performance by removing or reducing I/O bottlenecks, increasing bandwidth and reducing latency.
