Samsung DDR SDRAM Supports the AMD Athlon™ XP Processor 1800+ At Memory Speeds Up To PC 2700
1GB DIMM modules available now, 2GB DIMM modules to follow Memory speed range of PC2700, PC2100 and PC1600 available Advanced 0.15-micron process technology
SAN JOSE, CA --
10/9/2001 --
Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. today announced that it supports the new AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1800+ with QuantiSpeed™ architecture, throughout its entire DDR SDRAM product line. Samsung’s DDR SDRAM devices are currently available in densities up to 256Mb in x4/x8/x16 configuration and in modules of up to 1GB. Virtually all these devices will have transitioned to 0.15-micron geometry by the fourth quarter of 2001.
Samsung DDR SDRAM DIMM modules based on device densities up to 256Mb are available in PC2700, PC2100 and PC1600 speed ratings to suit customer performance and price requirements. These modules are in full production and are shipping now.
Samsung has an ongoing program of continuous technology improvement and is currently developing both faster and denser devices to meet its customers’ projected system requirements. Samsung will introduce DDR SDRAM 1GB unbuffered DIMM and 2GB registered DIMM modules based on 512Mb 0.12-micron process geometry devices by the end of the fourth quarter of 2001. These modules will also be available in PC2700, PC2100 and PC1600 speed ratings.
The AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1800+ with QuantiSpeed™ architecture offers a “quantum leap” in processor technology. The AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1800+ maintains an overall software performance balance by increasing the amount of work done per clock cycle while simultaneously improving the frequency. The AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1800+ is optimized for the execution of real-world and mission-critical applications and can handle the computation-intensive requirements of cutting-edge software applications.
“The AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1800+ delivers extreme performance when coupled with Samsung’s low cost, cutting-edge, DDR SDRAM technology,” says Tom Quinn, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.’s Vice President of Marketing. “Samsung continues to aggressively lead the industry with high-performance memory products for the desktop PC market.”
"Samsung DDR SDRAM memory is an excellent complement to any AMD Athlon™ or AMD Duron™ processor, particularly one as outstanding as the AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1800+," said Richard Heye, vice president, Platform Engineering & Infrastructure, Computation Products Group, for AMD. “AMD is dedicated to DDR memory and is proud to support the low cost, high performance DDR technology that Samsung brings to the PC market.”
The AMD Athlon™ XP Processor 1800+ with QuantiSpeed™ architecture is designed to provide the extreme performance for Windows® XP. It combines outstanding performance with ease of use and support for the world’s most popular software.
Samsung DDR SDRAM memory modules are available through distribution or directly from MyMemoryStore.com.
