Western Scientific To Include New
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processors To Product Line
San Diego-based high-performance computing manufacturer Western Scientific announces inclusion of the new Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Models 285 and 885 for use in their servers, clusters systems and workstations.
SAN DIEGO, CA --
3/6/2006 --
Western Scientific today announced inclusion of the latest Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processor Models 285 and 885 into its existing line of high-performance computing products, including: TeraBLADE, KiloCLUSTER , FusionA64 servers and workstations, FusionA8 8-Way high density rackmount servers, Fusion2k digital film review servers and the FusionSA series of integrated storage servers.
Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Models 285 and 885 are the highest-performing AMD Opteron processors available, yet still operate within platforms based on the existing 95W power infrastructure offering improved performance/watt, while also supporting AMD PowerNow!™ technology with Optimized Power Management. The AMD Opteron processor with Direct Connect Architecture helps eliminate the bottlenecks inherent in a traditional front-side bus architecture by directly connecting the processors, the memory controller and the I/O to the central processor unit to enable improved overall system performance and efficiency. AMD’s native dual-core implementation integrates two cores on a single die offering efficiency and better performance than competitive x86 dual-core implementations.
“Our clients need computing solutions that allow them the room to invent and grow without worrying about computing stability or performance,” says Jeff Johnson, vice president of technology, Western Scientific. “We realize the need for technology solutions that will meet present requirements and support development, but we also strive for technological breakthroughs and breaking current benchmarks. Our integration of the new Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors with our existing products will allow us to keep our promise to our customers.”
“Western Scientific builds powerful systems and storage solutions based on Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors to address the requirements of a number of compute-intensive environments,” said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “AMD strives to provide processor advancements like Direct Connect Architecture, native dual-core and AMD PowerNow! technology with Optimized Power Management to make their job easier.”
