Monarch Computer Systems® Premiers their New Empro™ 2 Line of Servers Powered by Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ Processors

Enhanced Servers Offer Customers Increased Performance, Greater Functionality

Atlanta -- 8/15/2006 -- Monarch Computer Systems® today announced the release of the Monarch Empro™ 2, a new line of servers and workstations based on Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ processors. Successor to Monarch Computer’s original Empro™ line, the Empro 2 offers the benefits of the latest evolution of AMD Opteron processors, including AMD-Virtualization™ (AMD-V™), high-performing, low-power DDR2 memory and a quad-core ready socket for future upgradeability. The Empro 2 line will be available in tower workstations and servers, and also rack mountable servers from 1U to 5U sizes.

“We are truly excited about the enhancements to our Empro 2 line of servers made possible by the Next-Generation AMD Opteron processor,” said Trey Harris, founder of Monarch Computer. “With industry-leading performance-per-watt capabilities and advanced leadership in x86 virtualization, AMD helps lower the total cost of ownership and improve the business capabilities of our customers. Monarch’s Empro 2 customers will greatly benefit from the combination of AMD’s proven technologies and our expert engineering, quality of products, and custom tailored support packages.”

The Next-Generation AMD Opteron processor with DDR2 memory and AMD PowerNow!™ technology capabilities will define a new standard in performance-per-watt in server and workstation markets. DDR2 uses 30% less power than the DDR DIMMs used in previous generation products and 58% less power than the FB-DIMMs, which are being used by the competition. AMD PowerNow!™ technology, originally used in AMD’s mobile CPUs, can change the CPU’s core speed and VCore voltage as needed. This feature is designed to reduce power consumption as well as heat output when the CPU is not being utilized to its maximum specification.

AMD Virtualization provides added flexibility to the Empro 2 servers. AMD-V allows users to run development and test environments on their existing hardware, greatly reducing the cost of upgrading to new platforms. AMD-V can also be used for disaster recovery, or as a secondary server. This can save companies and data centers from the cost of additional hardware, reduce space requirements, and add redundancy. All of these benefits can be enjoyed by small and large companies alike.

“The Empro 2 further demonstrates Monarch’s commitment to providing reliability, performance and cost-effective computing solutions for their customers,” said Pat Patla, Director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture reduce traditional bottlenecks inherent in front-side bus architectures for better overall system performance, offering the functionality and flexibility that is critical for success in the enterprise, while helping reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO).”
