ASUS Introduces New Server Solutions Supporting Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ 2000 Series Processors



Taipei, Taiwan -- 8/15/2006 -- ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (ASUS), a leading provider of high-performance server solutions, today announced five new server products supporting the Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ 2000 series processor platform and DDR 2 memory to provide the performance, stability and expandability demanded for 64-bit computing.

KFN4-DRE – The Value Option
Running on the Nvidia nForce Professional 2200, the KFN4-DRE serverboard is based on the Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ 2000 series processors, which supports 64-bit computing to deliver drastic performance upgrade. The 8 DIMM slots enable ECC Registered DDR2-533/667 memory up to 32GB, significantly raising memory performance of server systems.

Flexible expansion options are critical for application support and future upgrades. The KFN4-DRE comes with four slots: 1 x 32bit/ 33MHz PCI, 1 x HTX (which supports QLogic Hyper-Transport Extension card), 1 x PCI-E x 16, and 1 x SO-DIMM socket for server management use.

KFN4-D16 – Superior Scalability
The KFN4-D16 is also based on the Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ 2000 series processors and Nvidia nForce Professional 2200 chipset. Its 16 DIMM slots support dual-channel ECC Reg. DDR2-533/667 up to 32GB to satisfy critical computing demands.

The KFN4-D16 is created with expandability in mind, offering 7 slots: 1 x PCI-E x 16 (x 8 link), 1 x HTX, 1 x 32bit/33MHz PCI, 3 x 133MHz PCI-X and 1 x SODIMM socket for the ASMB3-SOL card, which delivers SOL, IPMI 2.0 security and offline service functions for remote locations to minimize system downtime.

ASUS will also launch two more models, the KFN4-D16/1U 1U rack solution and the KFN4-D16/SAS with SAS storage capability, in the near future.

KFN5-D SLI – For the Enthusiast Community The KFN5-D SLI targets the enthusiast crowd by offering excellent graphics capability with the SLI-ready, dual-PCI-E x16 platform. Running on the nVIDIA nForce Professional 3600 chipset, the KFN5-D SLI built in eight DIMM slots as well to support dual-channel DDR2-533/667 up to 32GB.

Excellent scalability is included with 1 x PCI-E x16, 1 x PCI-E x1, 1 x PCI-E x16 (x8 link) and 1 x 32bit/33MHz PCI slots to satisfy the expansion needs of consumer users.

KFN32-D SLI/SAS – Professional Workstation Solution Designed from the ground up for professional workstations, the KFN32-D SLI/SAS is loaded with the Nvidia nForce Professional 3600, nForce Professional 3050 and Intel® 6702 PXH bridge, and integrated high-speed interfaces for true workstation operation.

Supporting both SATA and the latest SAS controllers, the KFN32-D SLI/SAS provides complete RAID solutions. The Nvidia nForce Professional 3600 provides 6 SATA ports supporting RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, and JBOD, while the LSI 1068 SAS controller offers 2 optional miniSAS ports and ZCR for RAID 0, 1, 10, 5.

The KFN32-D SLI/SAS delivers outstanding expansion capability with 2 x PCI-E x16, 2 x 32bit/33MHz PCI, 1 x PCI-E x8, 1 x 133GHz PCI-X, and 1 x 133GHz PCI-X (support ZCR) for a wide range of sever add-on cards.

The KFN32-D SLI, another model without SAS storage, is scheduled of release soon as well.

RS161-E4/PA2 As the successor of the RS161-E3/PA2, the RS161-E4/PA2 inherited the neat and simple design concept. Upgraded from DDR400 to DDR2 533/667, the RS161-E4/PA2 takes advantage of the latest memory technologies. Two PCI-E x16 (x8 link) expansion slots further provide a high-speed interface for add-on cards, while an additional SO-DIMM socket allows users to apply the optional ASUS ASMB3-SOL card for system monitoring and management from remote locations. It leveraged integrated SATA RAID 0, 1 functions under Windows to deliver reliable data protection, and like other ASUS servers, the RS161-E4/PA2 incorporated ASWM2.0 system management software, an effective management and monitoring system.

The five products introduced are packed with other practical features, including two server-class PCI-E Gigabit LAN ports. For the RS161-E4/PA2, KFN4-DRE and KFN4-D16, teaming and failover functions are adopted for higher bandwidth and network reliability.
