Alchemy Semiconductor Leverages Denali's Advanced Memory Technology

Alchemy's High-Performance, Low-Power SoC Designs Benefit from Denali's Memory Research and Verification IP

Austin, Texas -- 1/14/2002 -- Alchemy Semiconductor Inc.™, fabless semiconductor company, and Denali Software, Inc., the leader in high-performance memory system design and verification, today announced a cooperative effort to support the memory technology roadmap of Alchemy's Au1000 microprocessor family.

By using Denali models and tools, Alchemy is able to assure that its processors are optimized for the wide range of new and emerging memory technologies. Alchemy will continue to use Denali's Denali's MMAV™ (Memory Modeler Advanced Verification) to simulate the various vendor-specific memory devices during system level verification.

The Alchemy Au1000 is a highly integrated MIPS-32-based (Nasdaq: MIPS) processor family that scales from 266 MHz to 500 MHz, and provides a wide range of Internet access peripherals. The advanced on-chip memory system plays a key role in ensuring the processor can handle high-bandwidth data processing tasks for a variety of applications. The current 400 MHz, 0.5 watt device is the first in its class to provide the high-performance and low power consumption required by Internet Edge Device makers.

"Denali has an excellent reputation in the memory system industry," remarks Jim Eno, ASIC engineering Director at Alchemy. "In addition to their technical expertise, we were impressed with their ability to provide a comprehensive and unbiased analysis of the memory market. Working with Denali enables us to design our processing solutions to utilize new and emerging memory components."

Adds Denali's Memory Market Analyst Lane Mason: "There is turmoil in the memory market, especially in the high-speed DRAM space. System and custom memory designers face considerable risks when selecting memories for designs that will go into production one year from now, and may remain in production for another year or two. One wrong choice can lead to disastrous effects on cost and time to market. Our goal is to provide customers like Alchemy with the most advanced and unbiased market information, and then assist them in making the most practical memory selections to satisfy their customer applications."

Denali's memory market research services are typically bundled with Databahn™, its high-performance memory controller IP product. The memory research option provides customers with an unbiased look at the memory market from a design perspective. Dedicated analysts, memory vendor relationships, and leading indicators from its eMemory.com site provide Denali with a unique resource for customers who need to minimize cost, time to market, and risk associated with memory system design. The service includes vendor profiles, price and cost issues, supply assurance, technology roadmaps, and a monthly market status newsletter.
