AMD Appoints John Volkmann As Vice President Of Strategic Communications

SUNNYVALE, CA -- 5/14/2002 -- AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the appointment of John Volkmann as vice president of Strategic Communications. Volkmann will report directly to the Office of the CEO.

“John Volkmann has a proven track record of successfully guiding companies through strategic positioning issues," said Rob Herb, AMD executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer. "We are pleased to welcome him to AMD."

Prior to joining AMD, Volkmann was appointed to several leadership positions at Citigate Cunningham, one of the leading public relations firms in the technology industry. Volkmann is co-author of Momentum: How Companies Become Unstoppable Market Forces, a marketing strategy book scheduled for publication by Harvard Business School Press in October of 2002.

Volkmann earned his MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
