ALi Introduces New Generation Chipset M1687/M1563 at Computex Taipei 2002

Chipset to Support Upcoming AMD OpteronÔ and Eighth-generation AMD AthlonÔ Processors.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN -- 6/3/2002 -- ALi Corporation, today introduces a new generation chipset - M1687 north bridge and M1563 south bridge, supporting the future AMD OpteronÔ and eighth-generation AMD AthlonÔ processors – the industry’s first x86-64 microprocessor technology. ALi’s M1687 equipped with AGP-8X support and HyperTransportÔ bus to link to M1563 south bridge, provides the necessary capacity to fully unleash the power and performance of the AMD eighth-generation platforms.

“The PC market place is driven by consumers’ demand to attain enhanced performance for the graphics intensive computing experiences. AMD Opteron and eighth-generation AMD Athlon processor-based platforms offer increased CPU processing speed, and their HyperTransport interfaces enable AGP-8X and other system I/O peripheral to achieve optimal performance,” said Dr. Chin Wu, president of ALi Corporation “ALi’s M1687/M1563 coupled with AMD’s eighth-generation processors will be a high-performance, scalable solution for the mainstream PC market.”

ALi’s M1687 has support for AGP up to 8X, which provides system designers ample room to interface with various levels of graphics requirements. Also, by adapting the industry most innovations - HyperTransport technology link bus between ALi’s M1687 and M1563, ALi’s solution is the best one to complement the architecture of AMD’s eighth-generation processor-based platform. ALi’s M1563 comes highly integrated with AC-Link Host Controller, Dual Channel ATA-133, 6 ports USB 2.0 Host controller, MAC controller for 1/10/100 fast Ethernet, memory stick and SD interface, and HyperTransport technology link interface.

“Systems using upcoming eighth-generation AMD and ALi technologies will be able to provide our shared customers with enterprise-class computing from single processor-based desktops to eight processor-based servers running mission-critical applications,” said Rich Heye, vice president, platform engineering and infrastructure, AMD’s Computation Products Group. “Enterprise customers will also benefit from being able to optimize 32-bit performance, and migrate to 64-bit systems and applications within the same environment.”
