AMD Named Environmental Leader by U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency



SUNNYVALE, CA -- 10/1/2002 -- AMD (NYSE: AMD) was honored yesterday with a 2002 Green Power Leadership Award by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. AMD was one of ten award recipients recognized at the Second Annual Green Power Leadership Award ceremony in Washington, D.C. for its significant efforts to advance the development of renewable energy sources.

AMD was presented with a national award for the highest achievement in purchasing green power. AMD’s Austin site is currently purchasing more than 24 million kilowatt-hours of clean renewable energy each year – 91 percent of which comes from Texas wind farms. AMD was also included in the Green Power Leadership Club for its high commitment to renewable energy.

“AMD is committed to actions that enhance the quality of life and protect the environment of the communities in which we do business,” said Craig Garcia, AMD director of Global Real Estate Planning and Management. “We are proud to be recognized by the DOE and EPA for our environmental stewardship, and we hope that other companies will join us in our efforts to reduce pollution.”

In addition, AMD was recognized by the EPA as a new Climate Leader Partner at the EPA’s Climate Leaders six-month anniversary event held yesterday in Chicago. Climate Leaders is a voluntary EPA industry-government partnership that encourages companies to develop long-term comprehensive climate change strategies. Climate Leader Partners set corporate-wide greenhouse gas reduction goals and inventory their emissions to measure progress.
