AMD Strengthens Position in Chinese Market with Addition of Karen Guo as Corporate Vice President and General Manager, AMD China
Experienced Chinese National Brings Strong Technical Background and Outstanding Government, Industry Relationships

AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the hire of Karen Guo as corporate vice president and general manager of AMD China. Guo represents a significant strategic addition for AMD, and will be the company’s most senior executive in the region. She will be responsible for all aspects of AMD’s growing presence in China and will report to Hector Ruiz, AMD president and chief executive officer. Guo will serve as a member of AMD’s Corporate Operating Committee, and will be based in AMD’s Beijing office.
A Chinese national, Guo is a well-known and respected leader in the Chinese business community. She has demonstrated a long track record of forging complementary partnerships with Chinese scientists, technologists and government officials designed to serve the rapidly growing technology needs of China’s business and consumer markets, and is dedicated to advancing China’s overall standing in the global IT community. Guo is expected to expand upon these efforts on behalf of AMD, and will be responsible for driving AMD’s new, connected business model in the region. AMD’s connected business model represents an evolution of the traditional semiconductor business model, and features complementary connections and collaborations with end users, customers and partners created to ensure shared successes.

Before joining AMD, Guo was responsible for leading Motorola’s technology efforts in China, serving as director of Motorola China’s Research & Development Institute (MCRDI) and DigitalDNA Labs China. She established Motorola’s PowerPC joint venture with Nanjing Panda Co., created joint research labs in key Chinese universities, and launched efforts around semiconductor material research, reliability modeling and Java based TCAD tools development.
Prior to her tenure at Motorola, Guo served as Deputy Director of the Chinese National Research and Development Center of Intelligent Computer and Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). With a background in computational mathematics, parallel computer system and software engineering, Guo also holds a graduate degree in computer science from Stevens Institute of Technology located in New Jersey, U.S.
