BOXX Technologies Announces RenderBOXX Rendering Systems Featuring AMD Athlon™ MP processors

-- New R1 Series Rendering Systems With Dual AMD Athlon Processors Deliver Outstanding Digital Film and Animation Communities Dynamic Rendering Performance --

AUSTIN, TX -- 6/5/2001 -- BOXX Technologies, a leading provider of digital content creation systems for the entertainment and digital film industries, announced today the RenderBOXX R1 series rendering systems that feature dual AMD Athlon™ MP processors, and support high-speed rendering in Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows NT or Linux.

Available in a 1U (1.75") configuration with both single or dual AMD Athlon processors, RenderBOXX openly supports all materials libraries and popular 3D-animation software such as Maya, 3D Studio MAX, Softimage 3D, LightWave 3D, and Houdini. The R1 series is designed to streamline the rendering process for HDTV, digital film, video, game development, 3D design and animation with unparalleled processing power over conventional rendering options. BOXX's Juggler render management software takes advantage of RenderBOXX's multi-processor configuration to dramatically reduce rendering times and lower production costs.

The AMD Athlon MP processors combined with Double Data Rate (DDR) memory, a technology designed to increase performance in 3D modeling and animation, offers a microarchitecture that is optimized for high clock frequencies and a system bus that runs at 266 MHz.

Giant Studios, Atlanta, GA relies on RenderBOXX to render realistic overcast, radiosity, and environmental lighting effects in its animated productions. "RenderBOXX is well suited for our needs," says Alex Nicassio, MIS at Giant Studios. "It offers consistent rendering performance, includes a large number of RAM slots, and we continue to improve our production workflow thanks to RenderBOXX's consistent rendering performance."

"Rendering is often the biggest bottleneck in a production facility," says Todd Bryant, president and CEO of BOXX. "Because of the demands it places on a system, rendering can rapidly increase production costs on projects that are not using systems optimized for rendering. RenderBOXX eliminates the rendering bottleneck and gives studios the power they need to complete projects on time and under budget."

As the perfect rendering enhancement for 3D effects and animation software, the RenderBOXX R1 series features:

  • Open support of all materials libraries and popular 3D animation software for enhanced performance
  • Dual AMD Athlon™ MP processors
  • Up to 4GB 266MHz DDR and 4 DIMM slots
  • Dual channel Ultra 160 SCSI controller and dual channel UltraDMA 100 IDE controller
  • Dual onboard 100/100Mbs Ethernet adapters
  • 1.75" (1U) space-saving configuration
  • Complete support of Maya, Softimage3D, 3D Studio MAX, Lightwave 3D, Houdini and other popular 3D and animation software programs
  • Optional hotswap hard drives
Availability
The RenderBOXX R1 series of rendering systems with AMD Athlon MP processors for Windows 2000, Windows NT or Linux are currently shipping.

About the AMD Athlon™ MP Processor
The AMD Athlon™ MP processor with Smart MP technology is the world's first widely-available seventh-generation x86 processor for high performance multiprocessing servers and workstations. AMD's innovative Smart MP technology features dual point-to-point, high-speed 266MHz system buses, which are designed to provide up to 4.2GB per second of sustainable bus bandwidth, and an optimized MOESI cache coherency protocol which manages data and memory traffic. The AMD Athlon MP processor, with stable Socket A infrastructure and support for DDR memory technology, has a high performance full-speed cache with hardware data pre-fetch, an advanced 266MHz front side bus with ECC support, a fully pipelined superscalar floating point engine, and an exclusive L2 Translation Look-aside Buffer (TLB). The AMD Athlon MP processor features a 266MHz front side bus based on the Alpha™ EV6 bus protocol.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy awarded AMD an ENERGY STAR® Certificate of Recognition for its energy-efficient processors, including the AMD Athlon MP processor. These processors can help manufacturers meet stringent ENERGY STAR specifications for a variety of appliances, equipment and other products. Products with the ENERGY STAR label are designed to use less energy, save money and help protect the environment. AMD Athlon MP processors are manufactured using AMD's .18 micron copper process technology in Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
