AMD Introduces AMD Athlon™ 4, World's Highest-Performance Mobile PC Processor For Notebook Market
--New mobile AMD Duron™ processor offers optimized features for value systems-- --Compaq first to offer notebooks based on the new AMD Athlon™ 4 processor with battery-extending AMD PowerNow!™ technology--
SUNNYVALE, CA --
AMD today announced two new mobile processors primed with industry-leading features, the mobile AMD Athlon™ 4 targeted for the performance space, and the new mobile AMD Duron™ processor for value-conscious buyers. Both processors deliver performance that is the highest in the mobile PC industry for their respective market segments.
Compaq Computer Corporation has also announced the availability of a 1GHz AMD Athlon™ 4 processor in its Compaq Presario 1200 notebook series.
The mobile AMD Athlon™ 4 processor and the new mobile AMD Duron™ processor each feature the innovative AMD PowerNow!™ technology, which provides up to 30 percent more battery life without compromising performance.

Compaq Computer Corporation will offer notebooks powered by the mobile AMD Athlon™ 4 processor immediately through retail configure-to-order kiosks, the Compaq Web site, and a toll-free number. Compaq plans to offer models featuring the new mobile AMD Duron™ processor later in the year.

Home Shopping Network debuted notebook computers featuring the 1GHz mobile AMD Athlon™ 4 processor in the Compaq Presario series on Saturday, May 12.

The 1GHz, 950MHz, 900MHz and 850MHz mobile AMD Athlon™ 4 processors are priced at $425, $350, $270 and $240, respectively, and the 850MHz and 800MHz new mobile AMD Duron™ processors are priced at $197 and $170, respectively, each in 1,000-unit quantities.

The mobile AMD Athlon™ 4 processor features a new lower power design for notebook computing, 384 KB of on-chip, full-speed cache with hardware data pre-fetch (256KB of on-chip level (L2) cache and 128 Kbytes of on-chip level (L1) cache), a superscalar floating-point unit, support for AMD's 3DNow!™ Professional instructions for enhanced multimedia capabilities, and AMD PowerNow!™ technology for extended battery life.
