"AMD Duron™ processor-based systems provide up to a 30 percent performance advantage over Celeron processor-based systems at like processor speeds," said Pat Moorhead, vice president of Marketing for AMD. "Both business and home users will appreciate the capabilities they'll get with the new 900MHz AMD Duron™ processor. Businesses will find that the 900MHz AMD Duron™ processor's optimized design and scalability deliver outstanding performance for office productivity applications. Home users will find that the 900MHz AMD Duron™ processor provides exciting multimedia entertainment and excellent personal productivity solutions. In both environments, the AMD Duron™ processor-based system is far and away the best solution for value-conscious buyers."
"We are pleased to offer the 900MHz AMD Duron™ processor with our Presario 5000 Series," said Brett Faulk, Director of Retail Desktop Product Marketing at Compaq Computer Corporation. "Compaq Presario home PCs powered by AMD processors continue to provide best-in-class value and incredible performance for work or play."
Systems powered by 900MHz AMD Duron™ processors are available in North America and Europe through configure-to-order programs. In addition to Compaq, systems are available from numerous companies worldwide, including Time, Tiny and MAXDATA, among others.
Also, on April 6, the nation's third-largest home shopping network, ValueVision (Nasdaq: VVTV), will begin offering 900MHz AMD Duron™ processor-based systems to its 43 million viewers as part of the V2 Premier system.
"We are pleased to offer this system, powered by the 900MHz AMD Duron™ processor, to our viewers," said Steven Goldsmith, SVP and GMM of ValueVision. "Our customers demand quality as well as ease in purchasing. With the AMD Duron™ processor, they'll get a powerful, yet everyday computer at a great price that will serve them well at home or the office."
The AMD Duron™ processor line was developed with mainstream computing in mind. The widespread availability of UMA (Unified Memory Architecture) integrated graphics chipsets, which remove the need for standalone graphics cards in PCs, provides rich configurations while reducing graphics costs.
Additionally, AMD Athlon™ and AMD Duron™ processors use Socket A infrastructure, giving commercial customers a stable and reliable platform, lowering the total cost of ownership. With UMA graphics and Socket A infrastructure, AMD Duron™ processors set the basis for everyday business productivity.
The 900MHz, 850MHz, and 800MHz AMD Duron™ processors are priced at $129, $111, and $90 respectively, each in 1,000-unit quantities.
