Dolphin Interconnect Announces Plans to Support the Upcoming AMD Opteron™ and AMD Athlon™ 64-bit Processors Based on AMD Hammer Technology
Dolphin SCI Wulfkit Technology will support 64-bit AMD processor platforms

Dolphin Interconnect today announced its plans to support the upcoming 64-bit AMD Opteron™ and AMD Athlon™ processors based on Hammer technology. Dolphin’s high-speed WulfKit™ clustering solution is currently implemented in several superclusters built on the AMD Athlon MP processor-based platform, two of which are ranked on the Top 500 supercomputer list.
“The combination of the AMD Athlon processors and the Dolphin WulfKit interconnect system has proven successful in building high performance superclusters with impressive computing power,” said Kare Lochsen, CEO of Dolphin Interconnect Solutions. “Extending the WulfKit technology to AMD’s upcoming 64-bit processors substantially increases the performance levels our customers will be able to achieve in a supercluster.”
WulfKit and WulfKit3 interconnect systems are a combination of a Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) card and a powerful message passing interface (MPI). Dolphin’s latest innovation, WulfKit3, interconnects cluster nodes in a three-dimensional logical matrix, or cube. Very powerful superclusters can be built with WuflKit3 that achieve performance benchmarks comparable to clusters and supercomputers with substantially more nodes or processors.
“Dolphin’s support underscores both the importance of the AMD Opteron 64-bit architecture, and the significant opportunity our product represents to the high performance computing market,” said Ed Gasiorowski, director of upcoming developer relations for AMD’s Computation Products Group. “The power and scalability of 64-bit AMD processors represent important advantages for customers building superclusters with the Dolphin WulfKit interconnect system.”
