LSI Logic Fusion-MPT Architecture Will Support AMD Technology For 64-Bit, Robust Performance Solutions

LSI Logic Ultra320 SCSI and Fibre Channel products combine with upcoming AMD Opteron™ processors in enterprise-class server and workstation platforms

MILPITAS, Calif -- 1/16/2003 -- LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI) announced today that its Fusion-MPT™ (Message Passing Technology) architecture will support AMD’s x86-64 computing environment and the upcoming AMD Opteron™ and AMD Athlon™ 64 processors . The Fusion-MPT architecture provides a single, robust driver that supports implementations of Ultra320 SCSI and Fibre Channel products. LSI Logic and AMD will be demonstrating at the Server I/O tradeshow in Monterey, CA Jan. 20-22. http://www.serverio.com/info.htm

“Our support for the upcoming AMD Opteron processor, through the Fusion-MPT architecture, can provide enterprise customers with proven, scalable solutions,” said Dave Steele, Director of Product Planning and Management for LSI Logic Storage Standard Products. “The validation process was straight-forward and simple, demonstrating the versatility and value-add that our architecture permits.”

“The capability of LSI Logic Ultra320 SCSI and 2Gb/s Fibre Channel controllers to transfer large amounts of data at high speeds complements the AMD Opteron processor,” said Ed Gasiorowski, director of developer relations for AMD’s Computation Products Group. “The upcoming AMD Opteron processor will enable end-users to achieve new levels of performance and reliability for their most demanding applications."

The Fusion-MPT architecture is designed to deliver the highest performance available while shortening time-to-market by saving on integration and certification time. The proven architecture is also scalable, and offloads the system processor for efficient performance. Thinner operating system drivers reduce I/O overhead and cut development time. The architecture, using industry-standard ARM® processors, is considered by many to be the fastest, most efficient and versatile architecture implemented in high performance I/O controllers today.

LSI Logic was first to ship full production volumes of Ultra320 SCSI products and first to announce commercial availability of a full line of Ultra320 SCSI host bus adapters. LSI Logic 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel products now shipping are a clear example in industry-leading performance and interoperability. The LSI7202XP-LC HBA is being highlighted as part of the AMD product demonstrations at Server I/O.
