Ampro™ Computers' MIPS-Based™ EnCore M2 Embedded CPU Awarded Electronique's Electron d'Or 2002 For Subsystems Category
San Jose, CA --
Ampro Computers, the inventor of PC/104 and EBX form-factor systems and leading supplier of standards-based embedded computers, had its MIPS-based EnCore M2 selected as a subsystem category winner of the Electron d'Or 2002 award. This exclusive awards program, sponsored by France's Electronique magazine, is dedicated to honoring outstanding engineering products in the electronics industry. A panel comprised of individual experts representing French industry, university and consulting companies selects the most innovative new subsystem product each year.
"Ampro has been chosen for its EnCore processor module technology which provides a compromise between off-the-shelf CPUs and custom design, along with flexibility and easy interfacing with user's motherboards," said Catherine Gross, senior technology editor, Electronique magazine. "Processor modules are now growing popular among embedded PC providers; furthermore, EnCore modules can offer alternative architectures including MIPS and PowerPC."
"Ampro is proud to be recognized, once again, as an innovator in embedded computing," said Joanne Williams, CEO and president. "The MIPS-based EnCore M2 is our first RISC offering in our innovative EnCore module form factor, which delivers a solution that many of our customers have been asking for to address time-to-market demands using a low-power computing option."
"AMD is pleased that Electronique has chosen Ampro's EnCore M2 module as the winner for the subsystems category," said Phil Pompa, vice president of marketing, Personal Connectivity Solutions, AMD (NYSE: AMD). "The award gives great visibility for Ampro's outstanding implementation of the Alchemy Au1000™ processor from AMD to a broad base of system designers in France and throughout Europe, which is an important target market for AMD's Personal Connectivity Solutions group. Further, it validates our approach in meeting our customers' needs by bringing MIPS® technology-based performance to a power-efficient platform."
"System OEMs are seeking ways to develop differentiated products faster than ever before, often with shrinking budgets," said Kevin Meyer, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies, Inc. "Ampro's ability to win an award of this caliber by showcasing the high-performance and low-power benefits of the MIPS architecture for those OEMs is a great accomplishment."
About the EnCore M2
The EnCore M2 Module is the first MIPS32-based product in Ampro's new EnCore product family. The module is a low-power (0.50A), high-integration CPU designed to plug into a system OEM's application-specific logic board. Based on the 400MHz AMD Alchemy Au1000 processor, the EnCore M2 provides the functionality of a complete embedded CPU in a 100x145mm format, featuring two 10/100BaseT Ethernet interfaces, memory, USB, IDE, AC97, and EJTAG debug port. To speed baseboard development, Ampro offers a sample reference design in an EBX form factor.
The EnCore M2 is fully compatible with PC hardware and software standards assuring seamless integration with popular operating systems, application software and peripheral devices and delivered with Linux support as well as a Board Support Package (BSP) for Wind River Systems' VxWorks® operating system with WindML™ support.
Electronique, one of the publications of Group Tests, is the only French-language monthly magazine to bring practical and technological information to design engineers. To its 70,000 readers, Electronique provides a survey of the latest innovations, applications, along with a buyer's guide and news from the companies.
