SUNNYVALE, CA --
3/11/2003 --
AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the promotion of Dr. Bertrand Cambou to officer of the company and senior vice president, Memory Group. Cambou was previously group vice president of the company’s Memory Group. Cambou will continue to report to Hector Ruiz, AMD president and chief executive officer.
“Bertrand Cambou has quickly established a strong track record in delivering on the promise of customer-centric innovation. His personal focus on key customers provides a strong example and has led to solid successes with industry leaders in the wireless and embedded segments and with strategic customers and partners in Asia,” said Ruiz. “Building from the successful introduction of our breakthrough AMD MirrorBit™ technology, I am confident Bertrand will continue to successfully lead our Memory Group to sustained market leadership.”
Prior to joining AMD, Cambou served as a director of Paris-based Ingenico, a market leader in the development and sale of terminals for secure e-commerce transactions. Cambou has also served as chief operating officer of Gemplus, an industry leader in smartcard solutions, and as senior vice president and general manager of the networking and computing system group of Motorola’s semiconductor business sector. Cambou holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Paris XI University.
“I am proud to lead AMD’s Flash memory business at this exciting time,” said Cambou. “We are expanding our customer base by targeting wireless and embedded systems at the same time we are accelerating the introduction of new technologies. Our broad offering of AMD MirrorBit products ranging from 16Mb to 256Mb—along with the planned introduction of our 512Mb product later this year—allows us to take advantage of the many opportunities available in emerging markets for Flash memory products such as high-performance cellular phones, consumer, navigation and other systems.”
