Semtech's Advanced Power Management Chipset to Support Upcoming AMD 64-bit Processors in Next-Generation Desktop PCs and Servers

Camarillo, CA -- 3/14/2003 -- Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq:SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for use in communications, portable devices, computers, and industrial equipment, today announced that its SC2643VX+SC1211 Vcore power chipset has been qualified to provide power management support for the upcoming AMD 64-bit processors. The chipset represents the first product in Semtech's new line of configurable Vcore power solutions incorporating the company's patented Combi-Sense™ topology.

"Semtech is pleased to be an infrastructure supplier of power ICs for the upcoming AMD 64-bit processors and fully support this technology," said Ken Boyden, director of desktop & server power management products at Semtech. "We have worked closely with AMD for years, and are delighted that our advanced power management chipset can support the incredibly powerful and data-intensive applications that will be performed by upcoming AMD Athlon™ 64 and AMD Opteron™ processors."

Semtech's chipset comprises the highly accurate and feature-rich SC2643VX scalable, multiphase DC-to-DC controller and the SC1211 high-speed MOSFET driver. The new chipset converts a 12V main supply into highly accurate core supply voltages required by next-generation desktop and server microprocessors. This Vcore power chipset utilizes Semtech's Combi-Sense™ peak current-mode topology to provide loss-less current sharing and stable operation over all load conditions. Multi-mode over-current protection, superior transient response, noise immunity, and over-current protection in the SC1211 ensure high reliability.

“Semtech supplies innovative power management to enhance the performance of the upcoming AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Opteron processors,” said Tim Wright, director of desktop marketing, Computation Products Group, AMD. “The upcoming AMD 64-bit processors are expected to deliver increased performance for 32-bit software and the benefits of 64-bit computing to desktop and mobile PC users."
