Hector Ruiz to Serve as Acting Head of AMD Computation Products Group
SUNNYVALE, CA --
8/30/2000 --
AMD announced today that Larry Hollatz, group vice president of the company's Computation Products Group, has resigned to pursue other interests. Effective immediately, Hector de J. Ruiz, AMD president and chief operating officer, will serve as acting group vice president for the business unit which produces PC processors.
"AMD's progress in the PC processor market has accelerated since the introduction of the AMD Athlon™ processor, the industry's first seventh-generation processor," said Ruiz. "Processors for Microsoft® Windows® computing today account for nearly 50 percent of AMD revenues. The AMD Athlon processor is the highest-performance PC processor on the market today. Following Intel's announcement of their recall and suspension of shipments of their 1.13-gigahertz processors earlier this week, AMD stands alone as the only supplier of PC processors with clock speeds above 1 gigahertz."
"I look forward to working directly with the leaders of the Computation Products Group who have contributed so much to AMD's success," Ruiz continued. "The PC processor market is by far the largest segment of the worldwide semiconductor industry, with total sales projected to reach $32 billion in 2000 and $42 billion in 2002. PC processors represent our greatest growth opportunity."
Ruiz said that AMD remains on target to double sequential shipments of seventh-generation AMD Athlon™ and Duron™ processors to 3.6 million units in the current quarter and to double unit shipments again to 7.2 million units in the December-ending quarter. "Later this year AMD will introduce several new members of the AMD Athlon™ and Duron™ processor families, including products designed for mobile, high-end workstation, and server applications. AMD will offer industry-leading processor products for the broadest segment of the personal computing market in our history. My highest priority is to continue the excellent execution we are achieving in this critically important market segment," Ruiz concluded.
