AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Access Equipment Reference Design Kit Gives Developers Flexibility In Complete Package

—Comprehensive kit enables design of many different access devices with same platform, helps reduce development costs and time to market—

AUSTIN, TX -- 4/14/2003 -- AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the availability of the AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Access Equipment Reference Design Kit (RDK) that enables the rapid development of a wide assortment of access equipment, including data- and voice-enabled wireless access points, gateways, routers/firewalls and others. The RDK is a complete package that includes both hardware and software solutions.

Based on the AMD Alchemy Solutions Au1500™ processor, the Access Equipment RDK uses AMD MirrorBit™ Flash memory and offers the option of using the AMD Alchemy Solutions Am1772™ wireless local area network (WLAN) mini PCI reference design kit – meeting customer requests for a complete AMD solution while providing higher throughput plus security.

"Designers have a single platform to secure a variety of access device markets," said Phil Pompa, AMD's vice-president of marketing for the Personal Connectivity Solutions group. “The high-performance, low-power Au1500 processor also enables the designer to develop products that are capable of supporting more functions without worrying about having sufficient processor performance.”

"We ported our Broadway ISS Residential Gateway software on the AMD Alchemy Solutions Access Equipment RDK and were impressed with the versatility and the flexibility it provided our engineering team," said Jeffrey Goodwin, Chairman and CEO of Ashley Laurent, a leading provider of embedded broadband and networking software solutions. "This is a very complete development platform and can provide a competitive advantage for those developing gateways or other access devices."

About the AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Access Equipment Reference Design Kit
The AMD Alchemy Solutions Access Equipment RDK is a modular reference design platform that allows customers to target multiple market segments, including wireless access points, 802.11x voice telephony, IAD, cable MTA, high-end routers with firewall and data security, and IP-PBX. It is capable of securely supporting hundreds of VPNs with high-throughput. The security functionality can be accelerated using the optional security co-processor from Safenet. The option of either software or hardware based security functions allows system vendors to add high-security features only to those customers who demand it. The highly integrated AMD Alchemy Solutions Au1500 processor is an enhanced, MIPS32™ technology-based core, offered at 333, 400 or 500MHz, and includes two 10/100 Mbits Ethernet MAC, integrated Universal Service Bus (USB) host and device ports and an integrated PCI controller. For evaluation purposes, the RDK includes 64Mbit AMD MirrorBit Flash memory and 128Mbit SRAM. The density of both memory devices can be optimized depending on the features supported. The RDK also includes a four port 10/100 Mbit Ethernet switch. This switch can be either eliminated or replaced depending on the final port count needed. The PCI and Mini PCI bus allow the user an option to add other functionality ranging from wireless Ethernet, broadband cable, xDSL modem, video card, and hard drive.

The RDK contains information on both hardware and software and offers packages for the Linux operating systems. Support for VxWorks is planned for in the next two quarters. Also included in the RDK are design files, including Bill Of Materials (BOM), schematics, and gerber files.

Availability/Price
The AMD Alchemy Solutions Access Equipment RDK cost is $2000 and will be available by the end of this month.

The first public demonstration will be at the Embedded Systems Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, AMD Booth #602, beginning April 22nd.

About the AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Au1500™ processor
The Au1500 processor is a MIPS32 technology–based system on a chip (SOC) processor, and is available at speeds of 333MHz, 400MHz and 500MHz, with power dissipations of less than 400 milliwatts, 700 milliwatts and 1.2 watts, respectively. With highly integrated system peripherals, including a 33/66MHz 32-bit PCI Controller (PCI 2.2 compliant), GPIO, two 10/100 Ethernet Controllers, USB Device and Host, two UARTS, an AC-97 Controller and a PCMCIA controller, the Au1500 processor can provide lower system costs, and can enable smaller form factors, simpler designs and shorter design cycles.

The Au1500 processor's integrated dual Ethernet MACs (Medium Access Controllers) help to enable secure firewall functionality for use with today's broadband Internet access. Its integrated Universal Service Bus (USB) host and device ports enable user-friendly PC peripheral applications, and its Peripheral Component Interface (PCI) allows system design flexibility for home and small office networking products.
