AMD Signs Three Year Flash Memory Supply Agreement with Nortel Networks

SUNNYVALE, CA -- 10/31/2000 -- AMD today announced that it entered into an agreement with Nortel Networks to supply it with the majority of its flash memory requirements over the next three years. Under the contract, AMD will provide Nortel with AMD flash memory devices that are intended to support its evolving customer needs for networking solutions.

"This agreement with AMD, our 1999 Supplier of the Year, assures supply of the critical flash memory products that are required to meet our continued growth in the Optical, Access, Wireless and Enterprise businesses," said Ken Bradley, Chief Procurement Officer, Nortel Networks.

"Nortel's pioneering technology in areas such as optical and wireless Internet solutions and AMD's leadership in flash memory technology make for a winning combination," said Walid Maghribi, group vice president of the Memory Group. "AMD's relationship with Nortel highlights its commitment to supply the networking market with extremely reliable, high density flash memory devices. This agreement further solidifies AMD's position as the leading vendor of flash memory devices to the major networking companies of the world."

About AMD Flash Memory Devices
AMD technology is employed by the world's largest producer of flash memory devices, Fujitsu AMD Semiconductor Ltd. (FASL). AMD flash memory products encompass a broad spectrum of densities and features to support a wide range of markets. AMD offers many flash memory products, such as the award-winning Simultaneous Read-Write (SRW) product family; Super Low Voltage 1.8V flash memory devices; and Burst- and Page-Mode devices. AMD developed the robust Known Good Die (KGD) program and the patented negative gate erase technology, and refined the industry-standard Fine-pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA).

All AMD flash memory devices are guaranteed for a minimum of one million write cycles per sector and 20 years' data retention, making them the most reliable non-volatile memory devices in the industry.
