PSSC Labs Announces Support for the AMD Opteron™ Processor

Irvine, CA -- 4/22/2003 -- PSSC Labs proudly supports AMD’s newest entry into the high performance computing arena with an array of new products based on the AMD Opteron™ processor. Future PSSC Labs products based on the AMD Opteron processor include Beowulf supercomputers, database servers, network servers and, high-end workstations.

The AMD Opteron processor integrates the DDR DRAM memory controller directly into the processor, allowing for significantly faster memory access and larger physical/virtual memory address space. Traditional 32 bit processors have a four Gigabyte memory address cap. The AMD Opteron’s processors’ 40-bit and 48-bit virtual addressing allows for up to one terabyte of physical memory and 256 terabytes of virtual memory space. In addition, the memory controller operates at AMD Opteron processor’s frequency. This translates to an available memory bandwidth up to 5.3GB/s per processor.
