Western Scientific launches FusionA64
San Diego-based computer manufacturer announces introduction of AMD Opteron™ processor-based servers and workstations
SAN DIEGO, CA --
4/22/2003 --
Western Scientific today announced the introduction of the FusionA64 line of high-performance rackmount servers and deskside workstations featuring the new AMD Opteron™ processor.
The FusionA64 line of servers and workstations are designed around the new, powerful AMD Opteron processor, the only x86 processor to offer simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing. All FusionA64 products feature one or two AMD Opteron processors, and incorporate the same high quality components and feature flexibility found in the entire Western Scientific Fusion family.
“Our clients in the scientific and entertainment markets are looking for computing solutions that will allow them to move into the future- as they invent it,” says Jeff Johnson, vice president of technology, Western Scientific. “We realize the need for technology solutions that will meet present needs and support technological development, not prevent it. Our relationship with AMD has allowed us to design the FusionA64 line with the future in mind.”
FusionA64 rackmount servers will be available in 1U, 2U, or 4U configurations and will feature single or dual AMD Opteron processors 200 Series. All Fusion64 rackmount servers are available with up to 16GB of DDR RAM and a wide range of onboard storage options. A number of high performance computing cluster configurations are available, including Dolphin, Myrinet, and Infiniband interconnects. Fusion64 deskside workstations will feature up to two AMD Opteron processors 200 Series and will be available with many optional features including high-end graphics, on board RAID, and wireless networking.
”AMD is working with Western Scientific to offer clients custom-tailored solutions,” said Ben Williams, director, AMD's Server/Workstation Business Segment, AMD’s Computation Products Group. “The AMD Opteron processor can dramatically increase the flexibility of Western Scientific’s solutions by offering customers the ability to migrate from 32-to 64-bit environments at a time of their choosing. It is an excellent example of improving return on investment, and lowering the total cost of ownership.”
