Einux Launches Family Of 64-Bit Ultra-Dense Rackmount Servers and Clusterblade Supercomputer for AMD Opteron™ Processor
ClusterBlade Array and Excelera64 Family of Servers Represent Comprehensive Lineup of AMD Opteron Processor-based Solutions
New York, NY --
4/22/2003 --
Concurrently with the AMD’s (NYSE: AMD) launch of the
AMD Opteron™ processor today, Einux launched its ClusterBlade™ Array supercomputer and Excelera64™ family of 1U rackmount servers powered by the revolutionary new 64-bit AMD Opteron processor with AMD64 technology. The ClusterBlade Array and Excelera64 family of servers represents a comprehensive lineup of AMD Opteron processor-based solutions.
Einux, a leading manufacturer of rack-mounted and high-performance server and cluster solutions for the enterprise and HPC marketplace, officially launched its ClusterBlade Array and Excelera64 family of nine of rackmount servers. Scalable up to thousands of processors, the ClusterBlade Array represents the next generation of supercomputing and is designed for high-density server farm environments and high-performance computing (HPC) applications such as bioinformatics/genetic research, digital content creation, financial analysis, scientific and educational research. The Excelera64 servers include the A170, the densest 1U server in the industry featuring Einux’s DoubleRack™ architecture, the A4800, a 4-way AMD Opteron processor-based server, A1700 and A1800 1U entry-level application servers designed for Web and front-end applications; the A1720 and A1820 1U Carrier-grade servers, featuring the first 1+1 redundant power system in a 1U server designed for high-availability applications such as telecom; the A1740 and A1840 1U Enterprise-level server, featuring four hot-swap drives designed for enterprise applications requiring RAID 5 data redundancy; and the A2712 and A2812 2U Storage and File Server, featuring an unprecedented 12 drives and internal storage up to 3.6 terabytes in one server, for file server and high-capacity storage applications. The ClusterBlade Array and Excelera64 servers will be showcased at the AMD Opteron Launch Event being held today in New York City.
With escalating real estate prices and higher costs associated with building and maintaining data centers, density has become a major factor in the design of servers. 1U rackmount servers, with a height of 1.75 inches, are becoming more popular with their ability to fit 40 servers in a rack. The ClusterBlade Array, utilizing Einux’s patent-pending DoubleRack technology, takes this a step further by cutting the depth of each Cluster Blade Server in half to 14.9 inches, thereby allowing Einux’s ClusterBlade Servers to be racked back-to-back in a standard 19” Rack, effectively doubling the density and achieving the equivalent of a 1/2U form factor rackmount server. With its blade server architecture, each ClusterBlade Server can be easily pulled out of the rack for easy maintenance and configuration. With support for up to 88 individual ClusterBlade Servers, a ClusterBlade Array can support up to 176 AMD Opteron processors, 1.34TB of DDR ECC memory and 25.2TB of internal storage with up to 1.2 Teraflops of computing power per rack.
The Einux Excelera64 family of servers all feature support for up to two AMD Opteron processors Model 200 Series (A4800 supports 4 AMD Opteron processors Model 800 Series), up to 16 GB of DDR ECC memory, support for two to four IDE, SCSI or serial ATA had drives with storage capacity up to 3.6TB and dual Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet network interfaces. The Excelera64 rackmount servers also feature Einux’s ServerKool™ technology, providing an efficient thermal cooling system for optimum performance. ServerKool uses a pressurized ducting system to provide more effective cooling directly to the crucial parts of the server such as the processors and memory. Every ClusterBlade and Excelera64 server can be managed by Einux’s ServerController™, a comprehensive “lights-out” server management system based on the IPMI 1.5 industry-standard, which allows IT administrators the ability to remotely monitor, manage and configure an Einux Excelera64 server and be able to shut down, reset and turn on their Einux server. “The ClusterBlade Array, with its Teraflop computing power, and the Excelera64 servers offer enterprises and institutions a wide range of choices for deploying 64-bit AMD Opteron processor-based solutions,” said Rex Wong, President of Einux. “Einux’s AMD Opteron processor-based server and cluster solutions leverage the full value proposition of the AMD Opteron processor and AMD64 technology.”
Powering the Excelera64 family of servers is the AMD Opteron processor, the first 64-bit x86-compatible processor available today featuring AMD64 technology. With AMD64 technology, the AMD Opteron processor is backward compatible with 32-bit applications while also delivering 64-bit performance. The AMD Opteron processor features HyperTransport™ technology, an efficient, high-speed link between each AMD Opteron processor, allowing for “glueless” multiprocessing. In addition, the memory controller is embedded into the AMD Opteron processor, facilitating much faster memory access.
“The AMD Opteron processor can provides increased performance and reliability for a vast array of business applications,” said Ben Williams, director, AMD’s Server/Workstation Business Segment. “Einux servers and based on AMD64 technology offer business customers an excellent choice for computing environments that require high-performance for 32-bit applications, while offering the ability to migrate to 64 bits in the future.”
