New York --
UnitedLinux, the industry consortium comprised of Conectiva, The SCO Group, SuSE Linux and Turbolinux, today reaffirmed that UnitedLinux Version 1.0 supports AMD Opteron processor-based systems. UnitedLinux Version 1.0, released in November 2002, is the engine that powers products sold by the four companies, each with its own value-add features, services and pricing. AMD (NYSE:AMD) is an inaugural member of the UnitedLinux Technology Partner program.
“AMD’s 64-bit architecture allowed us to deliver a 32-bit solution last year that would be 64-bit enabled as AMD Opteron processors became available to the market,” said Paula Hunter, general manager of UnitedLinux. "We look forward to continued collaboration with AMD to enable rapid and efficient ports of 32- and 64-bit Linux-based applications and systems.”
"AMD and UnitedLinux share a common goal to provide scalable, reliable and affordable Linux-based solutions for the enterprise," said Rich Heye, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit. "Companies choosing systems based on our AMD Opteron™ processors will now have an x86-based option for capturing the advantages of 64-bit UnitedLinux products."
