LSI Logic Ultra320 SCSI, 2Gb/s Fibre Channel And Megaraid Products To Support AMD 64-Bit Processors
AMD64 technology-based processors will enable high-performance, enterprise-class server and workstation solutions using LSI Logic products based on LSI Logic’s Fusion-MPT architecture and MegaRAID technology.
MILPITAS, Calif. --
LSI Logic (NYSE:LSI) today announced driver availability and support for the AMD Opteron™ processors based on AMD64 technology. LSI Logic’s LSI53C1020 single-channel Ultra320 SCSI controller solution is shipping in AMD Opteron processor development platforms. LSI Logic’s 53C1030 dual-channel Ultra320 SCSI controller solution is designed into AMD’s 4U 4P and 1U 2P server reference designs. AMD announced availability of AMD Opteron processors earlier today.
“The ability of our controllers and host-based MegaRAID® adapters to transfer large amounts of data at high speed supports the computational ability of the AMD Opteron processor,” said Dave Steele, director of product planning and management for LSI Logic’s storage standard products division. “The low CPU utilization of Fusion-MPT architecture further complements AMD Opteron processor computing by increasing host processor efficiency. This results in exceptionally high performance for next-generation servers and workstations.”
LSI Logic Ultra320 SCSI, Serial Attached SCSI and 2Gb/s Fibre Channel solutions use Fusion-MPT (Message Passing Technology) architecture to deliver exceptionally high I/O performance using a single binary device driver. By basing AMD64 processors on an innovative extension to the existing x86 architecture, AMD has greatly simplified the effort required to port device drivers to this powerful new technology. When combined with LSI Logic’s Fusion MPT technology, customers benefit by enjoying a reduced software development burden, shortened integration and certification time, and accelerated time to market.
“AMD Opteron processors and LSI Logic products will provide enterprise customers robust and high-performance I/O solutions, expanding data capacity and optimizing 32- and 64-bit enterprise application performance,” said Rich Heye, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit. “LSI Logic’s wide offering of 64-bit solutions for AMD Opteron processor platforms, including 2Gb/s Fibre Channel, Ultra320 SCSI, and MEGARAID products and device drivers, enables customers to produce full-featured, enterprise-class servers.”
LSI Logic was first to introduce Ultra320 SCSI solutions to the market, and commands Ultra320 SCSI market share in excess of 65%. The company recently announced general availability of its Integrated Striping option for the high-performance workstation market. As well, LSI Logic is the leading third-party supplier of host-based RAID to the global PC and server markets with more than two million RAID solutions shipped to OEMs, ODMs, system integrators and resellers worldwide
