Newisys Announces Immediate Availability of the Newisys® 2100 Enterprise-Class Server

Newisys Brings Enterprise Quality to Industry-Standard Servers Based on AMD Opteron™ Processors

Austin, TX -- 4/22/2003 -- Newisys, Inc.—the technology company developing enterprise-class AMD Opteron™ processor-based server designs for Tier 1 OEMs and System Builders—today announced the immediate availability of the Newisys 2100 Enterprise-Class Server. First in a family of scalable, industry-standard server offerings, the Newisys 2100 taps the full potential of the AMD Opteron processor.

“Newisys is pleased to bring new levels of reliability, manageability and high performance to the commodity server market, previously only seen in proprietary RISC-based servers,” said Phil Hester, CEO and Co-Founder of Newisys. “Newisys designed, built and fully validated a comprehensive server solution in the Newisys 2100 to offer a robust, turn-key server to System Builder and OEM partners.”

For more than two years, Newisys has worked with AMD to build enterprise-quality, industry-standard server designs. By delivering reliable high-performance server offerings, Newisys provides market expansion opportunities for OEMs and System Builders, while reducing or eliminating their research and development costs. Newisys has signed multiple channel partners to resell its system. The company recently signed a distribution agreement with global distributor Avnet Applied Computing—an AMD Authorized Distributor and an AMD Opteron processor launch partner.

“Newisys 2100 servers based on AMD Opteron processors, will provide enterprise customers with optimized 32-bit application performance, and the ability to scale to the power of 64-bit computing as needed,” said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit. “Customers will be able to maximize current software and system investments on servers that can scale to 64-bit computing, previously unavailable in the x86 environment.”

Value and Performance for the Enterprise
The Newisys server benchmarks favorably against existing 32-bit and 64-bit servers and goes beyond those designs to allow the simultaneous operation of both 32- and 64-bit applications. The Newisys 2100 Enterprise-Class Server also delivers 100% remote, “lights-out” system management. Based on industry-standard building blocks, the management software offers a choice of a web-based graphical interface, command-line interface, or integration into existing management frameworks, for maximum flexibility and ease of deployment into existing data centers.

“Newisys’ enterprise-quality platform and system management tools, coupled with Appro’s robust sales, service, support and integration capabilities create a powerful combination that will deliver 64-bit computing to the masses,” said Daniel Kim, CEO of Appro. “Appro will resell the Newisys 2100 design under the brand name APPRO S120.”
