AMD Names Frederick Mapp Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer

AMD today announced the appointment of Frederick Mapp as vice president of information technology and chief information officer. Mapp will report to Hector Ruiz, AMD president and chief operating officer. As CIO, Mapp will oversee AMD's information technology and business systems organizations.

Mapp has held a number of key executive IT positions at American Express, Quality Service Solutions, InfoSpan, and IBM. Immediately prior to joining AMD, Mapp was vice president of information technology at Honeywell Corporation for the Industrial Automation Controls Division located in Phoenix, Arizona. In this position he provided information systems solutions, applications services, and support to over 4000 employees.
Prior to Honeywell, Mapp created a technology strategy to develop new services for the American Express corporate card. At American Express he re-engineered the information technology organization, implementing new processes and procedures to speed up time to market of new applications. He also began building the infrastructure to support the migration from legacy systems to client server.
At InfoSpan, a start-up client server software development company, Mapp designed the total customer services infrastructure that included information systems, technical support, customer call center, education, quality assurance, documentation, product distribution, and consulting services.
As an IBM executive, Mapp managed multi-billion dollar service and technical support organizations as well as implementing hardware and software support centers utilizing the latest in information technology applications. In 1990 he successfully instituted quality improvements systems and process change management disciplines and led one of the support organizations recognized with the coveted Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award.
