AMD Appoints 3COM CEO Bruce Claflin to Board of Directors

AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the appointment of Bruce Claflin, president and CEO of 3Com Corporation, to its board of directors. Mr. Claflin was elected at AMD’s board of director’s meeting on Friday, August 1.

Claflin also serves on the board of directors of Time Warner Telecom.
About Bruce Claflin
Claflin was named president and chief executive officer of 3Com Corporation in January 2001. He joined 3Com as president and chief operating officer in August 1998.
Before 3Com, Claflin served as senior vice president and general manager, sales and marketing for Digital Equipment Corporation. Prior to that position in 1997, he was vice president and general manager, of Digital's Personal Computer Business Unit. Claflin also was an executive officer of the company and member of the Executive Committee.
Claflin joined Digital from IBM where he had worked for 22 years. He started with IBM in 1973 and held a number of sales, marketing and senior management positions.
In 1989, Claflin was named assistant group executive and general manager responsible for IBM's Asia and South Pacific operations. In 1992, he joined IBM's PC Company as general manager, Mobile Computing where he was responsible for introducing IBM's ThinkPad line of mobile computers. In 1993, he was named president, PC Company Americas and in 1994, was named general manager, Products and Brand Management responsible for the PC Company's worldwide research and development, product and brand management.
While at IBM, Claflin served as a director on the boards of several IBM International subsidiaries as well as the IBM Credit Corporation and TSS, a joint venture between IBM and Kodak.
Claflin holds a bachelor of arts in political science from Pennsylvania State University. In 1998 Pennsylvania State University named him an Alumni Fellow, in recognition of his professional achievements and support of the University. In June 2002, Mr. Claflin was again honored by Pennsylvania State with the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his personal, professional and community service achievements.
