Turbolinux Announces Support for the AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor

Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 Update Kit Extends Support

Tokyo, Japan -- 9/23/2003 -- Turbolinux, Inc. today announced an update kit for Turbolinux 8 for AMD64, which extends support for the AMD Athlon™ 64 processor family, released today by Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD).

Turbolinux is releasing the Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 Update Kit on October 1, 2003. Turbolinux, Inc. has previously introduced Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 to support the AMD Opteron™ processor on April 23, 2003.

The Update Kit includes optimized packages that are tuned for the AMD Athlon 64 processor. Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 provides advantages of compatibility and the ability to run both 32- and 64-bit applications without restriction at the OS level, thereby enabling a more streamlined migration from 32-bit environments. This enables users to eliminate the barriers imposed by 32-bit systems and to enjoy the benefits and scalability of 64-bit computing while utilizing current 32-bit application assets in expanding computing environments.

"Turbolinux is committed to making flexible computing a reality for mobile and desktop users,” said Koichi Yano, president and COO of Turbolinux, Inc. “With the release of the Update Kit for Turbolinux 8 for the AMD64 platform, which is at the heart of the AMD Athlon 64 processor, both desktop and laptop users alike are able to harness the next generation of computing where both 32- and 64-bit applications run together in harmony.”

"AMD welcomes the support of the AMD64 architecture in the forthcoming Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 Update Kit,” said Tim Wright, director, desktop marketing, AMD’s Computation Products Group. ”AMD Athlon 64 processor-based PC users will now have the alternative of using a 64-bit Linux operating system ,harnessing the superiority of 64-bit computing."

In addition, Turbolinux is able to utilize their Asian language expertise cultivated in the development of existing x86-based operating systems to support 64-bit Japanese and Asian (simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, and Korean) language environments.
