AMIBIOS8 from American Megatrends Supports
AMD Athlon 64 Processor Technology
Atlanta, Georgia --
American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leading developer of computer technologies, today announced its AMIBIOS8® firmware supports the AMD Athlon™ 64 processor.
American Megatrends’ premium firmware, AMIBIOS8, is a leading initialization and management software for desktop- and notebook computers as well as servers. AMI has closely collaborated with AMD and Nvidia in order to develop a BIOS that offers maximum reliability on upcoming platforms running AMD64 processors.
“The AMD Athlon 64 processors are breakthrough products for the PC industry,” said Tim Wright, director, desktop marketing, AMD’s Computation Products Group. “Combined with the power, performance and flexibility of the AMD64 platform, AMIBIOS8 provides a stable, reliable firmware base for platforms designed to harness the power of the AMD AthlonTM 64 processors”
The processor introduces 64-bit desktop performance for a totally new user experience, while maintaining compatibility with existing 32-bit programs and applications. Graphics quality is radically improved: gamers and sophisticated users will be able to see details such as hair, skin and eyes for an extremely realistic computing experience.
“The introduction of the AMD Athlon 64 processor and AMD Athlon 64 FX processor will benefit PC enthusiasts and businesses alike, bringing increased performance and new computing experiences to market,” said Bill Clark, AMI Software Sales Manager. “AMIBIOS8 is an ideal firmware base for innovative platform designs based on AMD64 technology, whether they are desktops, notebooks, servers or embedded designs.”
The Athlon 64 processor with HyperTransport™ technology realizes a remarkable gain in the processor’s overall performance, enabling software developers to add new functionality to PC applications.
AMD64 is the only unified 64-bit architecture that is compatible with today’s pervasive x86-based computing platforms such as notebooks to the most powerful servers. This technology provides performance to existing applications, while opening the way for the adoption of 64-bit applications.
AMIBOS8’s modular structure allows the inclusion of new technologies by simply integrating a new e-Module, and AMIBIOS8 is particularly suited for designs that integrate mobile and server platforms and require system management features.
AMI’s system software offer is completed with AMIKey Recovery, which enables end-users to reconfigure the system to its original factory state when the operating system is damaged or the system crashes. OEMs and ODMs can utilize the AMIKey environment to install other pre-boot applications of their choice, like a diagnostic or a DVD player.
Delivering to developers a stable firmware that incorporates 15 years of experience, the AMIBIOS8 is a truly modular architecture based on a manageable file structure and Visual eBIOS, a friendly, Windows-based development environment. AMIBIOS8 eModules support the latest technologies like ACPI, USB 2.0, SMBIOS, Hypertransport, ASF, Serial Redirection and Serial Flash.
AMIBIOS8 is compatible with the IPMI management standard. AMI offers also a complete platform management solution, MegaRA0® PM, which ideally integrates AMIBIOS8 with system monitoring, alerting and correcting actions such as power cycle and reset. MegaRAC PM provides enhanced IPMI functionality like BIOS flashing and console text redirection.
