Crytek Supports the AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor

Coburg (Bavaria, Germany) -- 9/23/2003 -- Crytek, a developer of 3D computer and video games as well as the high-end 3D game engine "CryENGINE", today announced its support and optimizations for the AMD Athlon™ 64 processor family. The CryENGINE will power the widely anticipated, high frames per second (FPS) game Far Cry, which is being fully optimised for these processors.

Utilizing AMD64 technology will allow Crytek to showcase larger, smoother and more detailed worlds, offering gamers a new cinematic experience in game play.

Also, at the AMD Athlon 64 processor launch event in San Francisco Crytek is premiering an AMD64 version of the CryENGINE, as well as a level of Far Cry optimised for the AMD64 platform.

“We are really excited to be one of the first game developers to take part in AMD´s move to next generation 64-bit computing, especially since the transition phase is fully 32-bit compatible. Because we believe that the CryENGINE is slated to use each and every bit of PC hardware to its maximum capacity, we see AMD64 gaming as the next big move in the industry. It will open up endless possibilities, offering dynamic and emergent dimensions of game play,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO & President of Crytek.

”Crytek is creating incredibly detailed immersive new virtual worlds of Far Cry, which will no longer be hindered by 32-bit limitations,” said Rich Heye, vice president and general manager, AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit. “Just imagine the level of realism that can be achieved with an AMD64 environment. Crytek’s developers can optimize games for a 64-bit experience and create even more brilliant effects, more lifelike environments and larger maps for AMD Athlon 64 processor-based PC users.”
