Promise Advances Performance Computing With AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Support
New Program Brings AMD64 Driver Support to Promise’s Serial ATA RAID Controllers for Increased Performance and Reduced Cost
MILPITAS, Calif. --
Promise Technology, Inc., originator and leading supplier of ATA RAID solutions, today announced the launch of its program to support the AMD Athlon™ 64 processor (NYSE: AMD) based on AMD64 technology. Through this support program, Promise will offer enhanced drivers for the AMD Athlon 64 processor that take advantage of AMD64 technology offering simultaneous 32- and 64-bit compatibility for optimal functionality with Promise’s Serial ATA (SATA) RAID solutions.
“The AMD Athlon 64 processor and Promise’s industry-leading SATA RAID storage solutions share a complementary design philosophy, opening performance computing to customers at an exceptional value,” said Sam Sirisena, vice president of sales and marketing worldwide, Promise Technology, Inc. “Systems that use AMD Athlon 64 processors and Promise SATA RAID solutions expand the market for performance computing, providing customers with a greater value by enabling enhanced system throughput, increased storage reliability, and reduced system costs.”
As consumers look for cost-effective ways to enhance their system performance, ATA and Serial ATA RAID are gaining widespread popularity for performance computing applications such as gaming, workstations, and entry-level servers. By closely integrating RAID support with 64-bit processing, users can benefit from the optimized performance typically associated with high-end server architectures. Promise’s new Serial ATA RAID drivers will support the AMD64 technology-based processors such as the AMD Athlon 64 processor and the recently-announced AMD OpteronTM processor for servers.
“Promise’s support brings the benefit of high-throughput, cost-effective storage systems to users of AMD Athlon 64 processors,” said Tim Wright, director, desktop marketing, AMD’s Computation products Group. “The AMD Athlon 64 processor offers extreme performance and is built on the AMD64 platform, which is based on the industry-standard x86 instruction set and provides software compatibility for today, while eliminating barriers to 64-bit computing for tomorrow’s applications.”
