About the AMD Athlon™ 64 processor
Based on AMD64 architecture, the AMD Athlon 64 processors can not only run today’s 32-bit operating systems and applications with major performance increases, but also feature 64-bit processing power. They feature an integrated DDR memory controller for increased memory performance and a single-channel memory controller with up to 1MB L2 cache, while the AMD Athlon 64 FX processor has a dual-channel controller, 1MB cache and only works on AMD Athlon 64 FX processor-approved motherboards.
“The AMD Athlon 64 processor is more than just an AMD Athlon processor with 64-bit instructions,” said Trey Harris, President of Monarch Computer Systems. “Because of the AMD64 architecture, this chip gets you ready for 64-bit while blowing away the competition in existing 32-bit applications.”
“AMD is leading the way for PC enthusiasts, offering the first and only 64-bit Windows-compatible PC processor,” said Tim Wright, director, desktop marketing, AMD’s Computation Products Group. “The AMD Athlon 64 processors can offer dramatic increases in PC performance, with the simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing capabilities of the AMD64 platform.”
