Culver City, CA --
4Front Technologies announces the availability of Open Sound System sound drivers for AMD Athlon™ 64 and AMD Opteron™ processors running Linux.
Open Sound System support for AMD64 technology immediately delivers support for all the popular open source and commercial Linux and BSD audio applications on the AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Opteron processor platform. 4Front is also announcing the availability of its award-winning media player XMMS for Linux on the AMD64 technology.
“Porting the Open Sound System audio drivers to Linux on AMD Athlon 64 processors was extremely easy. We compliment AMD’s CPU designers and the Linux kernel developers who made it so simple for us to port from a 32-bit x86 environment,” said Dev Mazumdar, president of 4Front Technologies. "We hope to build on this collaboration with AMD and will soon deliver our Windows based 3D audio software DSPs called OSS/3D. OSS/3D will be the first consumer oriented 64-bit software audio DSP mainly used for enhancing MP3s, DVDs and Streaming audio.”
"Open Sound System and AMD Athlon 64 processors provide our shared customers the latest technologies for Linux and BSD audio applications on the latest desktop PC technologies,” said Tim Wright, Tim Wright, director, desktop marketing, AMD’s Computation Products Group. “Working with the cooperation of companies like 4Front Technologies, AMD can help provide audio products that run under a complete range of OS environments."
The Open Sound System 64-bit drivers currently support the onboard AMD 8111 AC97 compliant audio controllers as well as all the popular off-the-shelf soundcards like Sound Blaster Live and Audigy, Midiman Revolution, and other PCI bus based soundcards. The drivers include a software wave-table based MIDI synthesizer and also include a virtual mixing device that is able to play multiple audio streams with full sample rate conversion in real time.
