AMD today announced the Am29F160D, a 16-Megabit device that is the highest density 5-volt standard boot block flash in the industry. In addition to offering an architecture conducive to various microprocessor boot protocols, the Am29F160D offers performance as fast as 70 nanoseconds combined with an innovative sleep mode feature designed to minimize energy consumption. Manufactured with advanced 0.23 micron process technology, this high density boot block device guarantees one million write cycles and 20 year data retention.
"The Am29F160D provides engineers who are designing 5-volt systems a high density solution for increased levels of code and data storage," said Walid Maghribi, group vice president of AMD's Memory Group." The low power combined with the high endurance characteristic of all of AMD's flash devices enables our customers to create optimal solutions for their markets."
The Am29F160D features a flexible sector architecture with top or bottom boot options. In order to protect the boot code or other data from inadvertent modification, individual sectors can be locked in-system or via programming equipment. The device can operate from -40C to +85C temperature range, thus it's well suited for industrial as well as commercial applications.
Applications
The Am29F160D is targeted at 5-volt applications requiring increased memory, high performance, and high reliability. Typical applications include telecommunications equipment that have long product life cycles, networking switches and routers requiring large operating code, and set top boxes which are becoming highly differentiated and feature rich.
Package, Price and Availability
The Am29F160D is available in the small form factor 48 pin TSOP. Pricing is $6.95 in quantities of 10,000. The device is available for sampling now with production deliveries beginning in August.
