AMD Receives QS-9000 Certification

SUNNYVALE, CA -- 2/14/2000 -- AMD today announced that it received QS-9000 certification for its flash memory products. QS-9000 is an international standard customized to the automotive industry and its suppliers that incorporate the stringent quality programs of Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors.

"AMD is dedicated to supporting the high quality standards of the automotive industry," said Walid Maghribi, group vice president of AMD's Memory Group. "Becoming QS-9000 certified was a natural extension of AMD's already strict quality processes. AMD has embraced QS-9000 as part of its strategy to lead in this fast growing market."

Flash memory devices are becoming more prevalent in automobiles because of the increasingly sophisticated electronics that control engine operations and in-dash features like auto navigation systems. All of these electronic systems require flash to store complex code and data. The purpose of becoming QS-9000 certified is to provide automotive manufacturers the assurance that the AMD flash used in their cars, adheres to the same rigorous quality standards that they impose on themselves.

AMD remains committed to the automotive industry. Recently, AMD was awarded the Volkswagen Leading Edge '98 award, which recognized AMD's flash memory products for its technology leadership in the areas of low power consumption, high endurance, wide temperature ranges, and high reliability.

Some of the flash products currently being offered specifically for this marketplace include extended (-55C to +125C) temperature range devices developed for the severe conditions under the hood, Known Good Die (KGD) which provides a small form factor for limited spaces, and Burst Mode flash which provides substantially faster access times for low power, high-performance automotive applications. All of AMD's flash devices provide unmatched reliability for the life of the system by guaranteeing a minimum of one million program / erase cycles.
