SUNNYVALE, CA --
10/12/2003 --
On the day that saw the greatest record in Formula One racing fall, AMD (NYSE: AMD) congratulates Ferrari’s extraordinary driver Michael Schumacher on his history-making sixth consecutive World Championship. Schumacher, who also holds the record for the most Grand Prix victories, surpasses legendary driver Juan Manuel Fangio’s record of five driving titles.
In addition to Schumacher’s record setting performance, Ferrari also wrapped up their fifth consecutive constructor’s crown, solidifying their position as the premier racing team in the sport of Formula One.
AMD, a sponsor of the Ferrari racing team since 2002, is also a Technical Partner supplying the team with the latest in technology; including AMD Athlon™ 64 FX processor-based computer systems utilizing AMD64 technology.
“Technology is one of the major parts of our business these days,” Michael Schumacher commented recently. “In a world where milliseconds count, Ferrari seeks the best in everything. That’s why we choose AMD.”
“The Ferrari Formula One team needs powerful and reliable computers in order to continue their dominance in the highly competitive environment of Formula One racing,” said Patrick Moorhead, AMD’s Vice President of Corporate Marketing. “As a Technical Partner, AMD provides Ferrari with the high-performance technologies they require to be successful and we congratulate Michael and the entire Ferrari team on their amazing achievements.”
