AMD First To Receive Microsoft® PC 98 Certification For Home Phoneline Networking Controller

PC 98 Compliant PCnet™ -Home Solution Now Featured in Leading-Edge Retail Products

SUNNYVALE, CA -- 4/22/1999 -- AMD today announced that the PCnet™ -Home controller, the industry's first single chip solution based on the widely endorsed specification of the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA), is the first HomePNA compliant product to receive Microsoft® PC 98 certification. The PC 98 designation guarantees that the PCnet-Home controller is compatible with Microsoft Windows® NT, Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and all other products bearing the PC 98 logo. The PC 98 certification process includes a comprehensive set of tests to ensure that products are stable, easy-to-use, and take advantage of the new features of Microsoft operating systems. The PCnet-Home controller is currently featured in consumer home networking products including Diamond Multimedia's HomeFree Phoneline Network Kit, Linksys' HomeLink Phoneline Network Kit, and Actiontec's ActionLink Home Networking Kit.

"Achieving PC 98 certification is another milestone for AMD's industry-leading PCnet-Home controller," said Dr. Laila Razouk, vice president of the Network Products Division at AMD. "We are extremely excited about the acceptance of the PCnet-Home controller and the amount of industry activity surrounding HomePNA networking solutions. As the home networking market expands to meet future demands, AMD plans to maintain our position as a leading silicon solutions provider."

The PCnet-Home controller, currently shipping in volume, includes all of the hardware and software required for PC or peripheral manufacturers to quickly bring to market inexpensive phoneline networking devices based on the technology specification of the HomePNA.
