AMD And FASL LLC Join The MIPI Alliance To Develop And Promote Open Mobile Standards

—The experts behind AMD Alchemy™ processors and Spansion™ Flash memory to help define next-generation mobile processor standards—

SUNNYVALE, CA -- 2/18/2004 -- AMD (NYSE: AMD) and FASL LLC renewed and strengthened their commitment to developing and promoting open standards by joining the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) Alliance. AMD’s Personal Connectivity Solutions group delivers high-performance, low-power embedded solutions that are designed to address customer needs in the non-PC Internet Appliance market. Spansion™ memory, the world’s leading brand of NOR Flash memory, is manufactured by FASL LLC and available from AMD and Fujitsu (TSE: 6702).

The MIPI Alliance is a collaboration of mobile industry leaders with the objective to define and promote open standards for interfaces to mobile application processors. AMD and FASL LLC expect to leverage years of memory, processor and mobile system design expertise to participate in the development of these standards.

“We are pleased to offer our expertise in Flash memory and wireless solutions design to an organization that shares our goal of simplifying the design process for next-generation mobile devices,” said Bertrand Cambou, president and CEO of FASL LLC. “The diversity of the MIPI Alliance membership indicates that the MIPI Standard will enjoy broad support in the marketplace, and we expect MIPI Specifications to be an important factor in our product decisions.”

"Working within the MIPI Alliance allows us to better address the needs of our customers through the support of open standards, which ultimately enhance the development of innovative mobile devices and applications," said Mike Johnson, vice president, AMD Personal Connectivity Solutions group and senior AMD fellow. "Open standards are critical for system interoperability as AMD continues to develop customer-centric consumer technology that pushes beyond the PC. As a MIPI Alliance member, AMD will continue to deliver high-performance, low-power embedded solutions to the market. We expect to implement MIPI Specifications as they become available to quickly bring customers' products to market."
